Castor Oil Recipe

Castor oil can be poisonous when used in excess.  Castor oil is extracted from "beans" from the plant, which are actually just seeds.  Before initiating the use of castor oil, a woman should first discuss it with her obstetrician or midwife.  Castor oil can be used in place of, or before attempting a medical induction.   Too much castor oil can be toxic to the woman, but there is no conclusive evidence of it effecting the fetus.  There have been rumors of babies defecating in-utero but this has been debated by the fact that most women receive castor oil after 40 weeks of gestation when there is already an increased likelihood of meconium presence.

One of the most common side-effects of castor oil is vomiting and diarrhea.  Using alcohol in conjunction with castor oil can help alleviate these side effects.  Please feel free to discuss this recipe with your doctor or midwife or use at your own risk.  Some women report that contractions feel stronger and irregular with the use of castor oil.

In a glass:

30 mL of castor oil
30 mL of vodka*
8 oz of orange juice

Combine ingredients and then chug.  Wait one hour for results, and then try again.
If there are no results after the second try, wait 12 hours to re-attempt.
If it still doesn't work, give your baby more time!  Don't overdo it!
*can be substituted with spiced rum or brandy, or eliminated

Too much castor oil at one time can make you sick and create a negative birthing experience.

  1. I didn't know anything about the castor oil miracle mix when I was pregnant with our first baby but thankfully my nurse practitioner told me about it when I was pregnant with baby #2. :)

I did the mix before bed then woke up with only diarrhea, no contractions. Waited two days then took the mix again and boom! Baby was on the way! I used this with baby #3 and baby #4 as well.

It's amazing how well this stuff works at jump starting labor, especially if your body is ready.

If your body isn't ready then you'll just get a good cleansing [at least then you won't worry about pooping during delivery]. ;-)

  2. Haha, indeed. I know many women who have tried it and have said it worked but some have tried it more than once. My mom used castor oil, black and blue cohosh and the vodka. The first attempt it didn't work, then the second time it kickstarted labor within about an hour for her. Pretty cool stuff :-)
